<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxsieVGE9W9E7-Bh4csXpI4dGehFZ-k6JT8O752GdDtCIKWUljacJo_ssX_8y0HKxE2bJVhCHDZhSl0GkYnchOm1GYmPB1Rk3rXqkL6m_Y3GlISuGEYg1X7Og2oGzjuVdo-EQcLZSgrP0/s1600/Mission.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxsieVGE9W9E7-Bh4csXpI4dGehFZ-k6JT8O752GdDtCIKWUljacJo_ssX_8y0HKxE2bJVhCHDZhSl0GkYnchOm1GYmPB1Rk3rXqkL6m_Y3GlISuGEYg1X7Og2oGzjuVdo-EQcLZSgrP0/s1600/Mission.jpg" height="320" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What is your mission? Do you know? Have you discovered what drives you, what your passion is? If you have not, make it your mission to figure out what it is. It is important to know what your purpose is and what you want to leave to the world when you finally make your way to the next adventure. Walking the path is more important than the destination so knowing what that path is will make your life much more fulfilling and joyous all around. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Once you have that mission, you need to ask yourself about the people you surround yourself with. Do they feed your drive? Are the friends you have healthy and nurturing for your mission? If they are not, if the friends you have keep hampering your efforts to achieve your passion, then you need to move on. We oftentimes have people in our lives who keep us down and enable us to stay in bad habits and we need to learn to not allow those people to influence us and hamper our growth. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Now, sometimes this can be a negative thing. Sometimes when people are on the same mission they do some horrible things. That is why it is important for us to find that mission before we enter that group setting. Group and mob mentality can be used for the good of all humanity or for great harm. As an individual find what you believe in and what you want to achieve and then find the people who share that goal and go there together. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
That is what i love about the New Jersey Renaissance Faire. We are all on the same mission in the cast and have created a family that lifts up and supports each other and we are all on the same mission. It is our goal and passion to create a space where people can smile and be themselves. We create a world where our guests and patrons can escape the stresses of the day to day world. It is a beautiful thing and truly my favorite part of the whole process is the rehearsal process. We get to come together as a team, really as a family and work together at a common task. It is powerful stuff.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Find your passion everybody and a group of people who share that. Work together to achieve it and you become a synergy, where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. </div>

<i>That's AJ being flung into Liberty Lake by Dave Catanese</i></div>
<br />
Our auditions for the 2013 season of the New Jersey Renaissance Faire have come and gone. We had over sixty people come out for us and we were amazed by the level of talent that we saw, all people eager to be a part of the village of Crossford and help us bring the magic of the faire to life. We will be making decisions on casting over the next couple of weeks but some things have been decided. <br />
<br />
We would like to congratulate AJ Gagliardi who will be playing the part of Robert the Bruce at this year's faire. This is AJ's second season with us and last year you would have seen him as the dashing Cardinal's Guard, Bicarat. His battle on the chess board and later being throne into the lake, against Dave Catanese playing the role of Athos the Musketeer is a New Jersey Renaissance Faire legend. AJ is a graduate with a BA in Theater and Drama from Johnsons State College. He has appeared in such stage shows as One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Into the Woods and Peter Pan and played a press photographer on the television show Law & Order SVU. He is a certified actor combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors and has won numerous awards for his acting achievements. AJ is extremely excited to continue to play the role of Robert the Bruce, after starring as that character in the first three preview videos for this year's faire, including the one that is linked for you below. <br />
<br />
Although William Wallace and King Edward are the characters people tend to think about, our story is really more about Robert the Bruce and the crossroads he stands at. It was Robert the Bruce that the magic of Crossford brought to us this year to be put back on the right path. William Wallace and King Edward are at no crossroads, they are set in their ways and know exactly what path they will take, but Robert, Robert can make a choice and has decisions to make. <br />
<br />
Watch our next preview video to get a window into what is going on in the mind of our lead character, and once again, congratulations to AJ Gagliardi and we look forward to seeing you in your kilt and blue face paint this year, bringing the village of Crossford to life. <br />

<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><i>This might not be appropriate for some of our youngest fans, there are some descriptions of battle scenes and such that really young kids might find disturbing. Be aware. Bigger kids, enjoy and read on. ~The NJRF staff</i></span><br />
<span class="s1"><br /></span>
<span class="s1">On a brisk December day I woke groggily from my bed. It was a Saturday, why was my alarm going off so early? Ah, but wait, all of my battle clothes and two swords were sitting out on top of my suitcase. It must mean that I was going to a film session for the New Jersey Renaissance Faire!</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">I got in my car (a PT Cruiser named Tom), started blasting Rammstein and Dragonforce, and found my mind drifting amongst the power chords to glorious days of battle. I’ve been writing little snippets of stories for weeks. I’ve been so excited about this plot, it’s been rushing my blood around my head like horses. Whinnies and swords fill my brain most days. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve pictured war scenes just like what we filmed on that day in December.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">It occurred me, at some point during this 45 minute drive that you - our adoring public - don’t see these battlefields like I do. I mean, maybe some of you see battlefields in your heads as you pour another non-fat chai tea latte with extra sugar and hell, why not?, whipped cream. Maybe black steeds ride screaming through your head as you tell that retail customer that you just restocked those sweaters yesterday, and yes, they ARE over there in the corner where you told her they were 10 minutes ago.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">But, in case you don’t, I want to give you a sneak peek into my brain. I want to paint for you exactly the way I see things so you can share in the excitement I feel about this upcoming faire season. So, here you go my friends. A preview.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">I am about to tell you a story. </span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">I want you to see the battlefield before you. It is early morning, just before sunrise, late in the 13th century. The wind is cold and desolate. There is green still, but it is a harsh green of scrub bushes and mosses that will not die. The Welsh countryside is strewn with bodies, the earth drenched in their blood. Crumpled men have fallen into heaps in various places, their dead faces glazed with frost on this crisp morning. This was the final uprising, the last stand of a people who wanted a national identity and dared defy the English.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">A man gazes down on the deep red scarring the hills of shabby green. His head is heavy with the weight of the gold crown on his brow, but he bears the weight with practice and duty. His dark eyes glimmer in small fires still alight at various points in the openness. His pale face catches the first rays of dawn as they glaze the world redder still, and he is awash in the glowing crimson of glory and death. </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Edward Plantagenet stands on this field, proudly, with his wife Margaret by his side. She holds his hand and cradles a baby against the harsh winds. Edward looks out at the blood and knows he is victorious. It is the same victory he has always known, in every battle. Even when the outward war is lost, there is always something to be gained. </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">In this grand case he will become the ruler of Wales. His son, a boy of five, will soon be declared Prince of Wales. English policy and order will come to the lawless fighting and brawling that Edward has seen the Welsh fall to. And with it, peace shall reign in this land. </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Edward is well aware at what cost this peace has come. But he is also aware of how deserving the Welsh were of a strong, righteous leader. The Welsh will kneel before their new king, as so many have done before. It is destiny.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">We move several years later and I want you to see another battlefield, in a higher elevation. It is just past dusk and the redness of the sunset has given way to a calm and simple blue as the last light fades into nothing. There has been blood here too, but it has long been forgotten in the victory of the day. A victory shared by a few men in kilts who gather round a community fire to celebrate. </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Soon after defeating the Welsh, the English had come to the Scottish lands to settle a dispute of leadership. Rebellions began to rise. But unlike the Welsh, the Scottish became more successful in their efforts. </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">In the town of Lanark, not so long ago, a man stood his ground. He killed the sheriff of the town, a sheriff sent by the English to control the populace and bend them to English laws. The name of the sheriff will be forgotten. The name of the man will not.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">On this battlefield, that same man stands with a close force of friends. His companions have fought off the English, uniting their varied clans like never before. Another English raid has come and gone to a border village, and the soldiers were sent running. The Scottish people will not be trampled under foot as the Welsh were. They will fight for their honor and die by the sword to remain an independent nation.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">William Wallace stands in the center of the group, remembering quietly the day he killed a single English sheriff. The hands lovingly on his shoulders and rapped against his back are acknowledged, but not felt. His light hair drags in his face and covers dirt, blood, and the woad paint dried on from battle. The fire lends a glow to his ice blue eyes. Eyes which silently accept the fate of tomorrow, and thank the world for the blessing of today. Today has been long but well fought. Tomorrow they will come again. And the Scots will be ready.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">It is 1302 and another battle rages, though it is hidden from sight. The sun is warm and well into the sky, despite the chilly January air. Cloaked and stooped, a figure burns internally with despair. Behind the eyes of this man rushes a dark war that none can comprehend but himself. </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Robert de Bruce sits lonely in a cushioned chair, gazing out the window of an English palace. He has been declared the ruler of Scotland, as is his right and inheritance, and peace has come to the land. For now. Wallace, by the Grace of God, has gone to France while a more permanent treaty can be established with the English king. But rumors persist that Wallace will return before the summer and open the floodgates of war once again. </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Dark brows knit on a noble face. If Robert concedes to the English, peace will reign in Scotland. King Edward has established order in Wales, and that order has been kept for a number of years. Scotland was once a lawless place, and a strong hand is certainly needed to keep the various clans in line. With Edward’s backing, the peace will remain strong and unbroken.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">But the people want a peace of their own making. A peace of only Scottish rule, on Scottish land, led by capable Scottish lords. The people love Robert as well, but Wallace speaks for them when he tells his friend that no good can come from English rule. The Welsh are peaceful, but bent backwards by English demands. It is only a matter of time when the crushing force of Edward’s rule begins to take its toll on the Scottish people as well.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">A free Scotland or a peaceful Scotland. It has been on his mind for weeks. From the travel to the castle, to the nights spent in the king’s company. In the soft tread of maiden footsteps and the trot and gallop of horses hooves on the hunt. Robert’s all consuming thoughts are of his people and his decision.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">He is at war with himself. Constantly. And he cannot see an end to it.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">In 1560 we are in the peaceful village of Crossford. The residents are fairing quite well. The wind is bitter cold for January, but a constant supply of turnips have kept the denizens from starving. Animal feed has become somewhat scarce, but the local historians take it as a sign from God that there will not be another chicken stampede anytime soon. Just before frost, two things of note occurred. A small ship, manned by a single privateer, docked just before the ports froze over. The colors of Ireland fly from the proud single mast and all the village is abuzz with the visitation of mysterious Captain Conrad Sullivan to the sleepy town.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Also, of recent note, is the news that the Duke and Duchess had gone on visitation to relatives in Scotland. Why anyone would want to travel across the border at such a ghastly time of year is speculated by young and old. Though rumors persist of some strange happenings just before the new year, including an attempt on the beloved Duke’s own life, most have taken to the simple notion that Lord Hugh and Lady Elizabeth are settling a land dispute on the border and will return shortly to their castle, weather permitting.</span></div>

We have posted a new video in our series of preview videos for the 2013 New Jersey Renaissance Faire. About forty actors, stuntmen and friends of the New Jersey Renaissance Faire gathered on the snowy day of December 29 and got into costume, and carried swords and cudgels in the freezing snow and wind to put the finishing touches on this preview video that is the best we have shot so far. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
The first video we put out was from the point of view of William Wallace, the Scottish rebel and hero of this year's New Jersey Renaissance Faire. This video is from the point of view of his enemy, the English King, Edward Plantagenet. Enter the mind of the king in this video and see the world from his point of view as you prepare yourself for the 2013 season of the New Jersey Renaissance Faire. </div>

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm4G1kLQ3kk&feature=youtu.be" target="_blank">2013 Preview Video - William Wallace Scenario</a><br />
<br />
We have had some very non-Renaissance plots and scenarios in our three seasons of the New Jersey Renaissance Faire and are about to have another one when William Wallace arrives this June at the village of Crossford. Our first year scenario was centered around Maid Marian and Robin Hood. In year two we were visited by King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Last year we had the Three Musketeers all the way from France and the 1600's. Our first four plots come from times in history that are clearly not the Renaissance (you can argue for the Three Musketeers, but it is still not typical Renaissance Faire material) so how do we have the audacity to call ourselves a Renaissance Faire?<br />
<br />
There is a secret in our village of Crossford that for all purposes seems like any normal village in the English countryside in the 1500's if you do not look too closely. But the nobles of Northumberland (the English region our little village is located in) know of a secret that they have protected for generations. The woods and forests that surround the village of Crossford are magic, still resonating with the old magic of the fey. Each year at the strong times, the harvest festivals, the solstices, the equinox, there is a chance that some hero out of history will be brought to Crossford to change the path of their destiny. These heroes stand at a crossroads and are about to make a decision that history and the magic knows is not the right one. They are brought to Crossford to get back on the right path. The Dukes of Northumberland and the villagers of Crossford have always been there to help.<br />
<br />
So, our village and faire is set in an English village in the 1500's, 1561 to be exact this year, but our magical shire gives us the chance to explore other heroes and the idea of what one can do when they have another chance. Come to Crossford yourself and experience the magic. Maybe you are standing at a Crossroads yourself and the citizens of our fine village are more than willing to help you on your way.<br />
<br />
The New Jersey Renaissance Faire and the village of Crossford are located on the grounds of Liberty Lake in Columbus, NJ. The magic of the lake and the woods will bring our village from the 1500s into our century on June 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th of 2013, from 11 AM until 6 PM, rain or shine. Long live the Duke and Duchess. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
What hero of legend will arrive at Crossford this year? Watch our 2nd preview video to find out at this link: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm4G1kLQ3kk&feature=youtu.be">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm4G1kLQ3kk&feature=youtu.be</a><br />
<br />
The village of Crossford, home of the New Jersey Renaissance Faire is surrounded by a magical woods. In other ways, it is a typical village in England in the 1560's. The citizens raise their families here and work their fields and live their lives. But, each year, the magic of the woods brings a hero out of history to this village to solve some problem they are involved with. They are about to make a choice that history knows is the wrong one, and the citizens of Crossford and the good Duke and Duchess of Northumberland help to set them back on their path. <br />
<br />
In our first year, 1558, Maid Marian had agreed to marry the Sheriff of Nottingham. The citizens of Crossford put her back in the arms of her true love Robin Hood. In 1559, King Arthur was brought to Crossford to save the Round Table itself, and save it we did. Last year, 1560, D'Artagnan actually came back in time from the 1600's with his friends the Three Musketeers. He was going to forsake his fate and destiny to become a Musketeer to save his lady love. By the end of the day, he was welcomed into the ranks the Musketeers and history breathed a sigh of relief. <br />
<br />
This year, it might go something like this...<br />
<br />
<i>The Duke's court begins as it always does. The citizens of Crossford and their guest wait to see what hero of legend will emerge from the woods this year. There appears on the stage an English King and a noble from the north, set to make a deal that will forever alter the course of their two nations. Suddenly, bagpipes ring out on the hill and a lone Scotsman steps forward to bring sense to his friend who has lost his way. Tensions are high as the king clearly sees this man as his enemy. It is up to the Duke and Duchess to bring things to a resolution that will not lead to the crossing of swords at his own morning court. Chess match anyone? </i><br />
<i><br /></i>
Join William Wallace and Robert the Bruce this year as they battle for the future of Scotland versus King Edward "Longshanks" at the 2013 New Jersey Renaissance Faire. <br />
<br />
The New Jersey Renaissance Faire will be held at glorious Liberty Lake in Mansfield Township, NJ, Interstate 295 exit 52 A. 11 AM until 6 PM Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our second annual New Jersey Renaissance Faire. We have heard nothing but positive feedback and the number of guests we had greatly increased from last year. The reaction of the kids to our show was one of the most rewarding things for me to witness. Everyone had a ball at the faire, and for the children, the magic was very real. Whether it was meeting larger than life heroes like the Lords of Adventure or King Arthur and his knights, or searching for answers in the Quest for the Rose game, smiles were worn all day long on the young faces.<br />
<br />
We are all very pleased to be a part of what we are creating here. It is great to see the power of real human interaction to the people of our culture who are used to TV and instant messaging. The most common compliment i heard about our show was how welcome everyone felt and the strength of our cast in bringing the streets to life in our little village. <br />
<br />
Many old friends returned, like the Four Pieces of Eight, Rising Regina, the Mad Mechanicals, Adamo Ignis, Marshall Laww, the Merry Musick Makers and we also had many new friends and entertainers that were a resounding success. The crowd really enjoyed Emomojo Jousting, David Smith the One Man Sideshow, Mars Mandrake the Magician, Passtimes Musicke, Ash Cary and his falcons along with many others who joined us this year as well. We will have many more in 2012.<br />
<br />
We also saw many other special events and services arrive. Jason Klein joined our management team and brought his glass blowing expertise, Howling Woods Farms brought majestic wolves and we added many new games including the Fight Circle, The Paste in Ye Face, and a fully functional catapult supplied by a local scout troupe. <br />
<br />
All in all, our faire is on the grow and i am sure i missed some very wonderful additions that we had. The greatest addition however, was all of the new faces and patrons who graced us with their presence. It is that support that lets us keep doing what we love to do and we are forever in your debt. We hope to see you again in 2012. <br />
<br />
Kind regards, TJ Miller and the staff of the New Jersey Renaissance Faire.<br />
<br />

This weekend the village of Crossford will be invaded by all manner of wild beasts. Wolves and wolfdog hybrids from Howling Woods Farm were at our Shire last weekend and will also be on June 11 and 12. Howling Woods provides education about wolves and wolf hybrids to the public and places these beautiful animals. They do not encourage breeding, but try and help these majestic animals that are with us now. Visit their website at www.howlingwoods.org and come visit them this weekend.<br />

Also joining us this weekend will be the falconer Ash Cary who many of you may know from the Pennsylvania Rennaissance Faire. He will be flying his birds twice a day this weekend in an educational show about human kinds history and relationship with these beautiful raptors. You can also see him this fall at the Pennsylvania Rennaissance Faire. <br />

It is also highly likely that we will be having rescue greyhounds at our faire on the weekend as well. If you are looking for a companion, they will even be able to help you adopt one of these amazing animals. <br />
<br />
As always we will have six stages of quality entertainment for you to revel in all day at the New Jersey Renaissance Faire including a full scale joust, which also uses rescued horses as well. Strike up a conversation with one of our armored knights about the journey those mighty steeds took to arrive here on our joust list.<br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial Narrow";">Spectators at this year’s second annual New Jersey Renaissance Faire, held on the grounds of Liberty Lake in Columbus, NJ will have an opportunity to view a staple of medieval tournaments – the combat sport of jousting. As originally conceived more than a millennium ago, jousting is a deadly serious contest between mounted knights, who charge each other with lances and shields. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial Narrow";">“These jousting knights are going to bring the excitement level at this year’s faire to dramatic new heights,” says Andy Pritikin, director of Liberty Lake Day Camp. “Those who are fortunate enough to be watching will truly feel they’ve gone back in time to the Middle Ages.”</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial Narrow";">Like some sports, jousting can potentially be quite dangerous. To protect themselves, participants don a heavy, metal helm, armor and shield. The armor used in modern competitions replicates 12th century designs, with some additional modern padding included to enhance safety. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial Narrow";">The most successful knights are those who have the finest mounts. It takes an extremely courageous, well-trained horse to willingly gallop directly toward another knight’s mount. Years of preparation are required before any horse can be deemed ready to actually participate in the sport. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Arial Narrow";">The rules for modern jousting – more or less passed down for centuries – are extremely specific. The Shire exists in England, in the latter half of the 16th century during the reign of good Queen Bess, Elizabeth the First of England. Crossford is located in the realms of the Good Duke of Northumberland and it is one of his favorite places of progress throughout the year. The woods around Crossford are old and the wise people will tell you that there is magic in those forests. Each year, around the solstices and harvests, the fey become active and the veil between the worlds is thin. It’s during these times that the full magic of Crossford is revealed. It is this magic that brings characters out of time to our lovely shire such as Robin Hood and King Arthur. Come see the lovely scenery for yourself at the New Jersey Renaissance Faire!<br />

The theme of last year’s event was Robin Hood; this year’s theme is the story of King Arthur. However, die-hard fans will be quick to point out that neither of these mythic characters are from the Renaissance Era at all. How can we call ourselves a Renaissance Faire when these characters are clearly from the Middle Ages? That, kind friends and companions, is the magic of The Shire of Crossford in the English countryside where our faire lives. In my next blog entry I will take some time to explain how this very unique town works. Stay tuned!<br />

The first year was amazing and went beyond any of our wildest expectations. We created a magical place that welcomed families and guests of all ages to take a day off and experience life in Merry Old England. Last year, guests were able to watch the drama unfold between Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham. Robin Hood, portrayed by actor Todd Smith, and Nottingham, played by Ian McCafferty, took to the streets of our shire and met our guests face-to-face. Maid Marian, played by local actress Katrina Foy, warmed the hearts of young girls and princesses alike. This year it will be King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table who will visit our faire.
